Because it is one of the first flowers to bloom in spring, daffodils are seen as a representation of rebirth and new beginnings. They are also thought to represent inspiration, forgiveness, and creativity.
The Daffodil is for you if you are a cheerful person and you may be delighted by bright colors, baby chicks, and walking through long grass. If you’ve ever wanted to paint a room in your house yellow you may be a daffodil girl.
Do you like white or yellow daffodils better?
Dear Reader,
This week I’ve finally gotten a chance to breathe and so now I’m going to try to get back to writing weekly newsletters. Last week I submitted the first draft of my undergraduate thesis which is on the spiritual nature of food and eating. I’m very excited about it but it's taken a lot of time this semester.
I got a bit of a late start ordering seeds so I am just ordering them this week. I do have seeds from last year that have gotten started already. Last week I ordered lilies to grow for June. Last year was my first year growing them and I learned that they grow really well in bulb crates in the greenhouse.
My favorite thing that I read this week was TS Eliot’s poem The Hollow Men. It starts out with the lines:
We are the hollow men
We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
The imagery shows that men are spiritually hollow but materially stuffed like scarecrows. It’s a peculiar poem because it doesn’t follow the traditional form of poetry but rather uses fragmented sentences to convey meaning. It’s very thought-provoking and I recommend reading it. What have you been enjoying this week?
Your flower farmer,
Annika DeMaster
